there’s a number of people who are sort of unofficially teaching me. Even if they don’t actually know it. I sit in various channels, listen to certain people type, n sometimes things will be said that make me think, “huh, wassat?” and i go and ask questions, although not always directly of them! So, these guys are teachers in that sense: inspiration, a jumping off point. I’ll usually credit them directly in a lesson where they’ve been an inspiration, but for now, here’s an overview:
Michiel: my OH. He blogs here. He’s responsible for me moving from windows to slack in the first place; before him, i’d never even heard of Linux, never mind slackware. He’s been using Slack for many years, worked as a system administrator with Unix and Linux, and is part of the SlackBuilds team. In fact, he’s working on a slackbuild as i type this! Dutch in origin, he lives now in the UK with me.
ThomasY/Straterra: a pretty good friend of mine. He hangs out in a number of IRC channels but is always willing to help newcomers (including me). He’s a student, but also works as a sysadmin, and is.. well. a jack of all trades when it comes down to computers. He’s on facebook here, has a website here, and lives somewhere in the States (I won’t get more specific than that on other people cos it’s not fair to them).
Dominian: a self-described BOFH and PMFH (Project Manager from Hell) who regularly gets hate mail, this guy says a lot to make me think, sometimes. He has lots of fingers in lots of pies, including running noobfarm, and hosting sites for other geek friends of his. He blogs here and lives in the States.
LoganTheRed: a lovely guy who lives in the US, we’ve had some cracking talks on every subject under the sun! He’s a photographer and all round geek in his spare time, but works as a man of many hats (sysadmin/graphic designer/product photographer) in the IT dept of a small company. He blogs here, although, as he said, its rather out of date. (and he’s not a useless twat. He’s a very naughty boy!)
Fred: is the maintainer of slamd64 – the only 64 bit (unofficial) port of slackware any decent geek should consider! He’s a student at a university in the UK and is familiar with lots of different flavours of linux. He blogs here. Fred – i got one word for you. BUHHHKKKITTTT!!!
andarius: a wonderful friend who runs the super duper secret waffle labs, this guy takes his waffles seriously and is a goldmine of info. He lives in the US and blogs here.
CaptObviousman: another seriously wonderful guy who i have great chats with. He lives in the US as well (most of them do to be honest) and works as a programmer at the moment, while studying for his degree in computer science at night (hardworking guy!). He doesn’t have a blog or website at the moment but assures me that’ll change at some point, so when it does, i’ll put it here, if he lets me
there are other guys but i need to talk to them and get their okay before i put them up here
